Join fellow Centurions for the Dividing Lines Bus Tour, a 90-minute experience that drives into the future by illuminating the history of residential segregation and its far-reaching impacts in Kansas City.
The "Dividing Lines" Bus Tour offers a powerful and necessary examination of how individual actions, in conjunction with state and federal policies, have contributed to our current reality of residential segregation and the racial wealth gap. Starting at Shawnee Mission East High School, this 90-minute experience is led by an in-person tour guide and focuses on the Kansas City area to shed light on the governmental policies and practices, such as racially restrictive covenants and redlining, which systematically disadvantaged Black neighborhoods. Participants will learn how the policies discussed were present across the country, expanding their understanding of how our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces aren't the way they are by accident. This experience is designed to help you understand how we arrived at this point and inspire real, incremental changes moving forward as leaders of Kansas City.
