The Missouri State Affairs Committee meets monthly during the legislative session to hear from key elected officials on current happenings in Jefferson City.
About Our Featured Speakers:

Democratic Senator Barbara Washington was re-elected in 2024 to represent southeastern Kansas City and Jackson County in the 9th Senatorial District. Before being elected to the Senate, she served in the Missouri House of Representatives for three years.
Senator Washington proudly supports increased economic development in her district, including preserving Kansas City’s “18th & Vine” district. She also advocates passionately for increased funding for educational opportunities and universal health care for all. In her district, she regularly presents programs to focus on the importance of small business development, juvenile justice reform, minority mental health awareness, crime reduction, and environmental preservation.

Republican Senator Mike Cierpiot was elected to serve in the Missouri Senate during the November 2017 special election. He represents the 8th Senatorial District, covering Eastern Jackson County.
Before his time in the Missouri Senate, Senator Cierpiot served seven years in the Missouri House of Representatives. There he served as the assistant majority floor leader for three years and was later elected to serve as the majority floor leader until th the end of his tenure in the Missouri House.

Parking & Directions
Parking is available to our guests who park in the Union Station/West Yards Parking Garage. This garage can be accessed by turning down Broadway Street just west of Union Station, making a right at the bottom of the hill, and entering the parking garage at one of the entrances.
Finding the Board Room from the Parking Garage
As you make your way toward Union Station, you will find the entrance to the right of the Planetarium and Science City signs. Follow the corridor to the escalators/stairs, then take them up to the first floor of Union Station's Grand Hall. The Board Room will be to the right of Pierpont’s.
